The Los Chapitos project represents a style of deposit known as IOCG (Iron Oxide-Copper-Gold) that extends down the Peruvian coast into Chile and includes such deposits as Mina Justa (Peru), Mantos Blancos (Chile), and La Candelaria (Chile), to name but a few. IOCG deposits are particularly attractive exploration targets due to their high grades and frequent coproduct metals (gold and silver).
Exploration and Discovery
The Company optioned Los Chapitos in 2016 and now owns 100% of an expanded tenement area totalling approximately 22,000 hectares. Exploration and drilling focused on the Adriana and Atajo zones began in 2017. A total of 19,161m of diamond and RC drilling were carried out on the project. The 2017/18 campaign was highly successful in identifying near-surface oxide copper manto and deeper structurally controlled high-grade sulphide mineralization.
The Los Chapitos project is located just 15km from the coastal town of Chala with access to water, power, and a major road network.
There is a ready supply of semiskilled labour and the project is just eight hours by road from the Peruvian capital, Lima.
What We Are Doing
Following up on the success of the 2020 drilling program consisting of 9 drill holes and 2,400 metres, Camino will now expand exploration targets along the 10 km Diva Trend in 2021. Drill targeting will focus on large alteration anomalies to the north of the 2020 drill program as well as to the south to target large geochemical anomalies.
